Deshler Golf Team Qualifies For State

GRAND ISLAND – The Deshler Dragons are headed to the state golf tournament after a strong showing in district competition on Monday.

Deshler’s team score of 396 was good for third place in the D-1 district, qualifying the whole squad for the state competition. The Dragons were led by two top ten performances as senior Heath Finke placed sixth by shooting an 89 while freshman Adam Roth’s 91 was good for eighth place.

They will be joined at state by teammates Hutch Finke, Aaron Buckles and Damian Fayle. The Class D championships will be May 23 and 24 at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte.

Meanwhile, Thayer Central junior Max Madsen qualified as an individual by scoring an 80 to tie for third place in the C-1 District. He will compete at the Class C tournament at Meadowlark Hills in Kearney.

State qualifying continues Tuesday with Fairbury, Beatrice, Crete, Norris and Southern all competing at the B-3 District tournament in Waverly.
