Beatrice’s Late Rally Falls Short As Skutt Scores Three in Seventh

BEATRICE – Despite four errors and giving up 13 hits, the Beatrice Orangemen were in it until the very end against #2 Skutt Catholic.

After four hits in the first, the Skyhawks got on the board first as Drew Perry crossed home plate.

The Orangemen would respond with an RBI single from Jacob Pinkerton in the second.

Skutt would take a 2-1 lead in the fourth following an RBI single from J.D. Daro III.

The sixth inning is where Beatrice made their move. Following an RBI single from Kole Jurgens to tie the game at three, Caleb Wallman put down a suicide squeeze bunt that would score a run. Wallman would also reach base safely. Skyhawk pitcher Brandon Anderson would close the door, striking out the final two hitters of the inning, holding the Orangemen lead to one.

In the top of the seventh, the first three hitters for Skutt would reach base and come around to score. The Skyhawks would lead 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh.

Anderson would strike out two more to start the seventh before Skutt finished off the Orangemen by the same score.

Anderson had a great night on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 innings and striking out 13.

Jacob Pinkerton and Kole Jurgens each had two hits and an RBI for Beatrice.

The Orangemen drop to 6-7 on the season and will host Gretna on Tuesday night. That game will be live on NCN 1450 radio at 6:30 p.m.
