BEATRICE – For the first time in nearly four years, the Beatrice Orangemen basketball team has lost back-to-back games.
Class-A 9th ranked Lincoln Pius “bolted” out to a 25-9 first quarter lead and never looked back to defeat the 7th ranked Orangemen, 77-64, Tuesday night in Lincoln.
The Thunderbolts led by 14-points at halftime and by 18 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Beatrice rallied and got to within ten points in the final period before Pius would go on a 10-2 run to put the game out of reach.
Tilden Bardsley poured in 19-points, while Cam Jurgens finished with 14 and Brandel Riekenberg added ten points for the Orangemen, who fell to 14-4. It’s the first time since 2013 that Beatrice has lost more than three games in a season.
Beatrice, who fell at Omaha Skutt last Friday, 72-61, surrendered more than 70-points in consecutive games for the first time in over five years. The last time the Orangemen lost back-to-back games was in February of 2013.
Beatrice hopes to rebound and extend their current home winning streak to 30-games on Friday, when they play host to Grand Island Northwest.
