Beatrice Golf Team Bound For State Tournament

WAVERLY – The Beatrice golf team qualified for the state tournament Tuesday by taking third place in the B-3 district competition in Waverly.

The Orangemen combined for a team score of 357, just seven shots behind second place Aurora. York had the top team score, combining to shoot 338.

Norris just missed qualifying as a team with a score of 360 for fourth place. The top three teams qualify along with all individuals who place in the top ten and aren’t on those teams.

Graham Southwick led Beatrice with an 82 to tie for fifth place. Andrew Paquette was right behind him at 83. The rest of the team is comprised of Caleb McKernan, Kaden Strubel, Trenton Jurgens.

Two other area golfers qualified as individuals. Fairbury’s Justin Peterson shot 81 to take fourth place while Carson Ellerbrake of Norris tied for 10th with an 85.

The Class B State Tournament will be May 23 and 24 at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln.
