An error scores two runs, saves Syracuse’s season

BEATRICE – The Syracuse Legion Baseball team trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when an error scored two runs and the Post 100 Seniors advanced to the Area B1 Tournament Championship game with a 4-3 win over Crete Monday at Christenson Field in Beatrice.

Monty Roberts, Mitchell McWilliams, Kelson Driever, Ethan Zastera, Christian Frederick, Zane Weiler and Trevor Brinkman each had one hit for Syracuse. Brinkman also added an RBI and a run scored.

Brendon Lyon was credited with the win on the mound. He gave up three runs on 10 hits, struck out four and walked one over 6 2/3 innings.

Ethan Mach was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out two. Mach also finished 3-4 at the plate with a home run, an RBI and a run scored.

Syracuse needs to defeat Hickman twice Tuesday to advance the Class B State Tournament this weekend in Wayne.

Crete has been eliminated from tournament play.
