LINCOLN – The Norris Titans remain the only undefeated Class B team left at the state baseball tournament in Lincoln.
It took eight innings for the one-seeded Titans to down Omaha Skutt on Wednesday night, in a winner’s bracket matchup.
With the two teams nodded at eight runs each, Norris’s Drew Reetz started off extra innings play with a single. A bunt advanced him to second base and then a Will Reetz single into centerfield was enough for D. Reetz to score and the Titans to take a one-run lead.
Ethan Krueger of the Titans shut the door in the final frame to record the win.
Skutt had the lead for much of the game, as they took an 8-5 lead into the 6th inning. The Titan bats heated up that inning, scoring two runs in the 6th and one more in the 7th to force an 8th inning.
Drew Reetz finished the game going 4 for 5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI’s. Will Reetz went 3 for 5 with one RBI.
Krueger, who came into the game to start the bottom of the 6th, pitched three innings of scoreless ball, giving up just two hits and recorded four strikeouts.
The win keeps Norris in the driver’s seat in the double-elimination bracket, and they will next take on #2 Lincoln Pius X at 3 p.m. Thursday. A win would put them in the title game against a team that would need to beat the Titans twice.
If Norris loses, they’ll play either Pius, Skutt or Gretna in a one-off championship game on Friday.
