JOHNSON, Neb. – The Johnson-Brock volleyball team, ranked #1 in the latest Class D1 rankings, may have swept Auburn in straight sets Thursday night, but the Bulldogs didn’t make it easy.
“I am very proud of the way these girls go against some serious competition, and looking forward to what they will continue to do against some tough teams this year,” Auburn Head Coach Lexie Baack said.
The Eagles improved to 8-0 on the season with a 25-21, 26-24, 25-23 (3-0) triumph. That is now 11-straight wins for Johnson-Brock, dating back to last season. Their win streak is the longest active streak in all-classes across the state.
Baack says the Bulldogs have to work on a few of the mental aspects of the game, but other than that, she thought they fought tough.
“We swung whenever we were able to against a strong Johnson-Brock block and were very smart about where we put the ball,” Baack said. “Our defense also picked up significantly tonight and kept a strong offensive J-B team to a minimum. Our serving also played a big factor in keeping us in the mix.”
Junior Sydnie Reeves led Auburn with nine kills and eight assists. Fellow junior Emma Goering also finished with eight assists.
The Bulldogs drop to 2-1 and will play another ranked team on Tuesday, Class C1 #4 Lincoln Lutheran (7-0).
Johnson-Brock will compete in the HTRS Tournament on Saturday.
