WAVERLY — A Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Deputy avoided disaster on Sunday morning, pushing a suspect into a ditch seconds before a Yutan Public School teacher struck the officer’s cruiser.
The incident took place near 141st and Raymond Road, just north of Waverly, at around 1:55 a.m., when officers responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of the road.
LSO deputies found 37-year old Dustin Miller passed out in a silver F-250 when they responded to the call.
While investigating Miller, a 2006 Dodge Stratus heading southbound, driven by 36-year old Douglas Veik came over a nearby hill, and stuck the LSO cruiser.
Miller and the deputy were outside of the vehicle when the accident happened, but the deputy was able to push Miller out of the way, and no injuries were reported. Miller was lodged for possession of a controlled substance.
Veik, who was taken to Bryan West for blood draw, was been charged with DWI.
Veik is an employee of Yutan Public Schools, where he is a business teacher, activities director, and former head football coach.
