BEATRICE – Gage County Sheriff’s officers were summoned to investigate a gunshot injury to a teenager, yesterday.
Shortly after 5:50 p.m. yesterday, law officers were summoned to Beatrice Community Hospital, where a 13-year-old male had been brought to the emergency department with a gunshot wound.
Sheriff Millard Gustafson says investigators determined that the gunshot injury was the result of an accident and did not involve any criminal activity. It occurred at a rural home southwest of Beatrice.

Investigators were told that there had been problems with the weapon in the past, malfunctioning or with delayed firing. Gustafson says the youth’s father arrived shortly after the accident and took his son to the Beatrice hospital.
The 13-year-old male’s injury was not considered life-threatening, but he was later transported to Bryan LGH West hospital in Lincoln, for further medical treatment.
