Wymore Vacant House Fire, Labeled “Suspicious”

BEATRICE – Wymore authorities are labeling a fire at a vacant home over the weekend, “suspicious”, in nature.

Acting Wymore Police Chief and Assistant Fire Chief Mark Meints says authorities spent all of Saturday assisting in a Nebraska Fire Marshal investigation of the fire, which broke out at about three a.m.

Firefighters from Wymore, Blue Springs and Beatrice fought the blaze at the house located near 11th and “J” Streets.

Meints says the home had been vacant for at least a year, and there was no electricity to the structure.  Gas service was still available at the home.  A small amount of natural gas was detected at the scene, venting outside the building.

The fire caused over $20,000 damage to the structure and contents inside.  Meints says the home is owned by a couple who reside in Kansas.

Meints says officials left the scene at about nine-thirty, Saturday night.  He says police and fire have interviewed several people.  The investigation continues, and anyone with information that may assist authorities, is asked to call the Southeast Communications Center in Beatrice….402-223-4080.
