Woman’s $950 Saved After Phone Scam

COLUMBUS – Police were able to halt a transaction that would’ve left a grandmother out $950 from a phone scam.

Police say a local woman reported receiving a call from a scammer posing as her grandson. The scammer convinced the woman that he had just left the hospital, and needed to pay a bill, says police.

The woman then sent $950 via wire transfer, said authorities. Police then found out she had been scammed, and were able to put a stop on the transaction before it was able to be completed, and saved the woman’s $950.
