With Options Dwindling, Gage County Preparing For Budget Impact of Beatrice Six

BEATRICE – Gage County Board members were meeting behind closed doors with at least four lawyers, discussing the next steps in the Beatrice Six case.

This week, the full 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied rehearing the verdict and judgment against the county, which exceeds $28 million.

Supervisors Chairman Myron Dorn said today the case will factor into this year’s formulation of the new county budget, which will likely be approved around September 12th.

Among county options in the Beatrice Six case is an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court…or a bankruptcy declaration.

A public hearing on the overall Gage County Budget would likely be held around August 29th.  The deadline for an approved plan is September 20th.
