BEATRICE – If forecasts for additional heavy rain hold true for Monday and Tuesday, cities along the Big Blue River in southeast Nebraska could see moderate flooding.
The National Weather Service projects the Big Blue River in Beatrice could rise to over 22 feet by early Wednesday morning, four feet above flood stage. That would bring the water level close to crossing over U.S. Highway 136, just west of the river bridge. At 23 feet, floodwaters begin to cross onto the highway, also known as West Court Street. Early today, the Big Blue was still twelve feet below flood stage.
Since Friday night in Beatrice, 2.7 inches of rain has fallen, with one to two inches of additional rain forecast for tonight, and an additional one to two inches possible on Tuesday.
