Van Flips Over Beatrice Bridge, Lands in Creek

BEATRICE – A Diller man escaped serious injury when his van struck a bridge in northwest Beatrice, plunging to Indian Creek below.

Beatrice Police Sergeant Wes Henning says 20-year-old Trey Saathoff was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Ventura van south on North 2nd Street, when the van went out of control on a curve.

The van went up over a concrete bridge railing, flipped over the side and landed on its wheels in Indian Creek, off the west side of the bridge.

Henning says witnesses reported the accident to police and assisted Saathoff in getting back up the creek bank.  He suffered only bumps and bruises in the 6:44 p.m. accident.  A towing company was sent to the scene to retrieve the van from the creek.   The accident was along the east side of Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad tracks.

Henning says the scene was cleared just after 8 p.m.  Saathoff was the only occupant of the van.
