UPDATE: More Details on North Dakota Arrest of Suspect in Beatrice Kidnapping

BEATRICE – Beatrice Police say a 14-year-old girl initially believed to be a runaway, is safe after being taken to North Dakota by a male suspect.

Beatrice Police say the girl was reported missing on Monday, but law officers later determined she had been enticed to leave by a 24-year-old man, identified as Nichollas Johnson.  Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang says the two apparently had met, online.

Johnson, who is from North Dakota, was arrested by Cass County authorities in North Dakota on suspicion of crimes committed there.   Beatrice Police say an arrest warrant has been issued in Gage County for Johnson, on a charge of kidnapping.  Lang says he did not know what charges Johnson is being held on, in North Dakota, nor when Johnson might be returned to Nebraska.

The police chief said additional charges are possible in the case and there is a potential for Johnson to face federal charges.   He was arrested last night, in what Lang said was incredibly good police work between agencies in North Dakota.  Lang says the girl was found at a hotel, while Johnson was arrested at a separate location.
