New Firefighters/Paramedics (L to R) Jason Semrad and Jay Beavers

BEATRICE – Beatrice Fire and Rescue welcomed two new members of the department on Friday, who have completed their training.

A badge ceremony led by Chief Brian Daake and attended by department personnel and family members was held for Jason Semrad and Jay Beavers.

The two men joined the department in training six months ago and are now certified firefighters and paramedics.

Chief Daake says the paramedic training is offered through Creighton University and Southeast Community College, in Lincoln.

Beatrice Fire and Rescue, at full staff, has 21 members, working three separate shifts.   Daake says the department includes firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.   Over half the department’s members are trained to the paramedic level.

Just like typical fire and rescue departments, a response call came in as the ceremony was going on, sending personnel on an ambulance call.

Beatrice Mayor Stan Wirth helped present the badges to the two new department members and their families.
