NORFOLK – A tragic accident north of Norfolk has taken two lives this afternoon and one of the victims is a small child. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, just before 1:00 pm today, a northbound Buick SUV was attempting to turn west onto Highway 13 into Hadar when it was struck by a southbound semi.
The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. There were three small children in that SUV. Two of the children were transported to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk and the third was flown from the scene to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. One of the children taken to the Norfolk hospital later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the semi was transported to Norfolk as well, with non-life-threatening conditions. Names and additional details regarding age and gender will be released following notification of next of kin. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the crash.
