Two-car accident in Geneva sends one to the hospital on Tuesday

GENEVA, NE – An accident in Geneva Tuesday sent one person to the Fillmore County Hospital.

The incident occurred around 4:30 in the afternoon Tuesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 81 and R Street, which is on the northeast edge of town.

A car traveling southbound on Highway 81 at roughly 70 mph swerved to avoid a driver going westbound on R Street who failed to stop at a stop sign.

The driver going westbound struck the southbound vehicle, sending it into a utility pole.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, who was under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene, but was later contacted by law enforcement.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.
