Two California Men Injured in Bridge Accident, South of Cortland

BEATRICE – Two California men suffered injuries when their vehicle went off U.S. Highway 77, and struck two bridge railings, south of Cortland, Tuesday night.

Gage County Sheriff’s Officers say 33-year-old Rami Ibrahim, of El Cajon, California was driving south on the highway between Buckeye and Cedar Roads, when he was distracted, and the vehicle went off the east side of the highway. It struck a bridge railing, then crossed to the opposite side of the highway, hitting another railing.  The vehicle came to rest in the west ditch, south of the bridge.

Ibrahim was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital, by a Clatonia Rescue squad. A passenger, 22-year-old Abdullah Ibrahim, was taken by Beatrice Fire and Rescue to Bryan LGH West, in Lincoln.

Deputies say the men’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.  A medical helicopter landed at the scene of the 10:50 p.m. accident but wasn’t used for transporting either man.

Both men had exited the vehicle before rescue personnel arrived.  All of the vehicles’ airbags deployed.
