BEATRICE – A pre-trial conference is scheduled for early next year in a shooting that caused paralysis in a Beatrice man.

Gage County District Judge Rick Schreiner set a January 3rd hearing date, for 33-year-old Nathan King, charged with attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault, use of a firearm to commit a felony and making a terroristic threat.

He’s accused in the shooting of 23-year-old Boston Bieler last March, at a home along Southwest 32nd Road.

Investigating officers said two witnesses allegedly observed King fire a shot from a handgun at Bieler through the glass door on the porch of the home.  The bullet struck Bieler in the back of the neck.  The incident followed a report of an altercation at the home.

King’s attorney, Justin Kalemkiarian told the judge Thursday that time is needed to interview Bieler, who is recovering and is in Omaha.

Judge Schreiner said he intends to set a trial date during the January 3rd hearing, possibly for the April trial docket.
