Transient Suspected Of Sex Offender Registry Violation

AUBURN – A man listed in court records as a transient is being held in Nemaha County on a charge of violating Nebraska’s sex offender registry act.

Sheriff’s deputies say Joshua Nichols, 32, of Elizabeth, Colo., had been living in a stolen car in Auburn for about two months before his arrest on July 5.

Deputies reported  finding an explosive described by Nichols as a “giant firecracker” during a search of the car near Optimist Lake on July 4.

The Nebraska State Patrol bomb squad took possession of the device.

Nichols is held on a $10,000 bond provision. Preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 24.
