A tornado watch has been issued for Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, Richards, and Saline counties in Southeastern Nebraska as well as all counties in North Central Kansas until 9 p.m.
Thunderstorms will rapidly develop this afternoon over central Kansas and spread across the watch area. Very large hail and damaging winds are possible in the stronger cells, along with a risk of a few tornadoes.
The Tornado Watch area is approximately along and 55 statute miles east and west of a line from 10 miles north of Beatrice to 45 miles south of Wichita. Southeast Nebraska counties include: Gage, Johnson, Pawnee, Nemaha and Richardson.
A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
