Topeka Woman Dies in Highway Intersection Accident

BEATRICE – A Topeka, Kansas woman was killed in an accident at a highway intersection, four miles south of Fairview, in Jackson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the collision happened Tuesday night, at around seven o’clock.

A Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by 80-year-old Helen Nolan, of Topeka, was traveling east and failed to yield at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and 190th Road.  Her vehicle was struck by a southbound semitrailer truck on U.S. 75, driven by 55-year-old Steven Akin of Saint Marys, Kansas.

Nolan died at the scene. Akin was not injured.  Both drivers were using safety restraints.

The crash location is about fourteen miles south of the Nebraska-Kansas border.
