BEATRICE – It’s Beatrice Clean City Week, starting Monday. The annual campaign features large item pick-up and haul away service, by the Beatrice Street Department and other public works employees.
Large items like couches, stoves, refrigerators and water heaters left at curbside will be hauled away, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
:21 “worked out, really well”
City Street Department Superintendent Jason Moore says this year’s unpredictable weather led to some discussion about potentially moving the event later.
:19 “week it’s always been”
Moore says with the moisture and snowfall this year, the city’s landfill has been very muddy….a problem for trucks hauling large items into the facility.
Citizens wanting to have items picked up this year, must register with the city, prior to 6 a.m. the day their area is being canvassed. You can do that at the city’s website.
….and clicking on the Clean City Week tab on the left side of the page. Or, you can call, 402—228—5211.
Moore said last year saw just over 400 addresses registered by the first day. As of this past Monday, about 250 registrations had been made for this year’s clean-up.
Only large items…not items that would be hauled away in normal garbage service, are allowed during next weeks’ pick-up.
:11 “a little spring cleaning”
Mattresses will NOT be picked up, but a roll-off dumpster will be placed at 1st and Ella, where you can dispose of mattresses.
Monday’s first area of pick-up will cover everything East of Sixth Street, South of Dorsey, North of Court Street and West of 19th.
