VALENTINE – Seemingly only in Nebraska could severe thunderstorms and snowfall happen just three counties apart on the same day.

Some portions of northern Nebraska saw their first snowfall of the season Thursday. A dusting of snow could be seen along the highways on Nebraska Department of Roads cameras near Springview, Valentine and points further west. Storm spotters reported five inches of snow on the ground in some rural areas of Cherry County

Meanwhile severe thunderstorms dropped hail on counties farther east. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued as a system made its way through Knox, Pierce and Cedar Counties. Cedar County law enforcement reported penny-size hail fell near Magnet on Thursday.
