BEATRICE – It’s been a rough stretch of months for Beatrice Police vehicles. A patrol unit carrying the department’s canine officer and his handler was broadsided this week when another driver ran a red light. That marks the third Beatrice Police patrol unit damaged this past year.
This week’s collision happened at 6th and Ella.
The first patrol car was struck by a vehicle in the north part of the city, causing slight injuries to a police captain. A second unit was rammed by a fleeing motorist, when the officer used his patrol S-U-V to block part of an intersection. The officer had minor injuries.
The most recent collision involved the patrol unit carrying the department’s canine officer, Toro. But Toro and his handler, Officer Anthony Chisano, were not injured.
Chief Bruce Lang says the toughest part of it all, is being without the patrol units while trying to settle insurance matters, on the vehicles.
