HEBRON – The Thayer County Sheriff’s office went on a short manhunt Monday morning, as an inmate escaped custody and fled on foot. Lance Powers, age 29 of Hebron escaped from the Thayer County Jail while being escorted by a Dispatcher from his cell to another location.
Officers chased the inmate out of the front door of the sheriff’s office and were assisted by several citizens who pointed out the direction of travel with some even following in their vehicles.
Powers was spotted in the downtown area and was soon apprehended near the Hebron swimming pool. The Thayer County Sheriff’s Department arrested Powers and transported him to the Saline County Jail where he will face additional charges.
Powers was currently being held on Thayer County charges pertaining to Non-payment of child support, Failing to appear, and Driving under suspension. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department also holds an active warrant on Powers for Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
