SYRACUSE – The Syracuse Invitational took place Wednesday, with eight total teams competing at Syracuse High School.
The meet was moved up from Thursday due to the weather forecast.
Norris won the team title for the boys’ division with 172 total points. Crete was second with 154. Fairbury finished fourth at 43.5. Beatrice came in seventh with 28.5
On the girls’ side, Syracuse and Beatrice tied for the team title with 115 total points. Fairbury was third with 84. Norris finished fourth with 77 and Crete sixth with 41.
Area boys’ winners
100 meter dash – Ashton Hausmann (Norris) won with a time of 11.42 seconds. Brody Kroll (Fairbury) placed sixth and PR’d at 12.16.
200 meter dash – Ethan Schmidt (Norris) claimed first with a sprint of 23.54 seconds. Crete’s Jaxon Weyand came in second with a time of 24.06 – a new personal record.
800 meter run – Zach VanBrocklin (Norris) won this event with a new PR time of 1:58.99.
1600 meter run – Another win for Norris – this one by Zachary Pittman. He PR’d in the event with a time of 4:51.07.
3200 meter run – Crete took the top two medals here. Daniel Ortiz was first (10:49), and Jose Gonzalez second (11:13.50, PR).
110 meter hurdles – Fairbury’s Dillon Weichel came in second with a time of 15.88 seconds.
300 meter hurdles – Zach Fye (Crete) PR’d and finished second with a time of 42.88 seconds.
4×100 meter relay – Norris’ team of Dylan Mostek, Ethan Schmidt, James Carnie and Ashton Hausmann won the event with a time of 44.47 seconds. Crete and Fairbury finished second and third, respectively.
4×400 meter relay – Norris won this relay as well. Tanner Cooper, Zach VanBrocklin, Matthew Medill and Ethan Schmidt clocked in at 3:36.79.
Shot put – Jaedon Lothrop (Crete) won with a throw of 49 feet-4.5 inches. A new personal best. Lothrop also took first in shot put at 135 feet-5 inches. A new season-best.
High Jump – Matthew Madill (Norris) cleared 6 feet-2 inches to win gold. Diego Rodriguez (Beatrice) and Carter Reckling (Crete) tied for second at six feet even.
Pole Vault – Carson Licht (Beatrice) vauled 11 feet-10 inches to win the event by at least six inches more than all other competitors.
Long Jump – Norris’ Matthew Medill leaped 20 feet-10 inches to secure victory. Jaxon Weyand (Crete) finished second and PR’d (20 feet-4 inches). Isaac Roberston (Fairbury) was third with a leap of 20 feet-0.5 inches, which is a new PR for him as well.
Triple Jump – Skyler Schwaniger (Norris) won the event with a jump of 43 feet-6 inches. Roberston of Fairbury finished 4th and set another personal best (41 feet-4 inches).
The Norris Titans had a fairly dominant day, winning six running events and three in the field.
Area girls’ winners
100 meter dash – Mackenzie Roy (Norris) won with a sprint of 12.97 seconds. Addison Barnard (Beatrice) was second at 13.22. Barnard’s teammate, Morgan Mahoney, came in third (13.45).
200 meter dash – Barnard won this race in a photo finish at 27.54 seconds – 0.03 seconds ahead of Ally Korte of Lincoln Christian.
400 meter dash – Veronica Pinkerton (Beatrice) PR’d and took first with a time of 1:00.05. Sara Huss (Fairbury) also PR’d and came in second at 1:00.45.
800 meter run – Pinkerton continued her solid meet with another win in the half-mile. She set a new season-best with a time of 2:24.05. The Lady O took three of the top four medals in the 800. Chelsea Leners came in third (2:30.37), and Jaiden Coudeyras fourth (2:36.24).
Both Leners and Coudeyras set new PRs in the 800 as well.
1600 meter run – Libby Gourlay (Norris) PR’d and won at 5:50.46. Makenzie Hatcliff (Beatrice) came in second and set a new season-best time at 5:52.30.
3200 meter run – Gourlay also took gold here with a run of 12:37.61 – a new season-best in the event.
100 meter hurdles – Jaelle Johnson (Fairbury) came in second and PR’d with a time of 17.44 seconds. Her teammate, Jami Mans also PR’d with her fourth place time of 17.65.
4×100 meter relay – Norris won the event. Taryn Tracy, Taylor McMurray, Morgan McCain and Mackenzie Roy crossed the line in 52.35 seconds. Beatrice was a close second at 52.82.
4×800 meter relay – Beatrice took gold here. Veronica Pinkerton, Mackenzie Hatcliff, Chelsea Leners and Trinity Eichenberger came home first with a time of 10:14.81.
Shot put – Morgan Maly (Crete) finished second and PR’d with a throw of 39 feet-5 inches.
Discus – Fairbury claimed the top two medals here. Sara Huss had the best throw of her career at 139 feet-6 inches. Jessa Eden, who placed runner-up, threw 135 feet-5 inches.
High Jump – Mikwena Lierman (Fairbury) took home second place and PR’d, clearing an even five feet.
Pole Vault – Lauren Havlat (Norris) vaulted 9 feet-7 inches to set a new PR. Jordan Maschmann (Beatrice) also set a new PR with her second-place vault of 9 feet-4 inches.
Triple Jump – Addison Barnard (Beatrice) placed second with a jump of 35 feet-3.25 inches.
