Suspect in Two Beatrice Burglaries, Bound Over to District Court

BEATRICE – A Beatrice man facing burglary charges has been bound over to Gage County District Court, after waiving preliminary hearing.

26-year-old Eric D. Smith is charged in the June 1st burglary of Shew Towing, of Beatrice….and the burglary of a garage owned by Dennis Dodge, which authorities say happened sometime between May 22nd and May 25th.

The charges are contained in separate criminal cases against Smith.   He also faces charges of possession of burglar tools, possession of methamphetamine, and a misdemeanor count of theft.

In the Shew Towing incident, police say Smith and another male are suspected of cutting a hole in a six-foot fence to gain access to the property, allegedly taking tires, rims and electronics from a vehicle.

In the garage break-in, the owner reported several tools and other items were stolen.  Police said some of the stolen goods had been pawned, locally.  The items included a lawn trimmer, batteries and a charger and a cable puller.

Smith is scheduled to be arraigned in Gage County District Court, September 7th.
