Suicide Attempt Thwarted, at Gage County Jail

BEATRICE – Beatrice Fire and Rescue personnel were summoned to the Gage County Jail this morning, on a report of an attempted hanging.

Emergency personnel were sent to the jail at around 9:30 a.m.   Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson says correctional staff members found a male inmate hanging from the bars of his cell.  The inmate was resuscitated and was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital.

Gustafson says correction’s officers were doing a jail count, at the time.

The name of the male inmate has not been disclosed.  He was being held on a probation violation.

Gustafson says the incident happened at the west end of the holding area, in a two-person cell.

Gustafson says the inmate will likely be transferred to the state’s Diagnostic and Evaluation Center, in Lincoln.
