Stroke Care Measure Passed by Nebraska Lawmakers

BEATRICE –  The Nebraska Legislature has given final approval to a bill adopting what’s called the Stroke System of Care Act.

LB 722 was the priority bill designated by 30th District State Senator Dr. Roy Baker, this session.

The bill, as amended, requires the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to establish a stroke system of care task force and implement a stroke triage assessment tool on the department’s website.

The original bill sought to designate hospitals as a comprehensive stroke center, primary stroke center or acute stroke-ready hospital…..establishing protocols for EMS treatment of stroke patients.

The amended bill carries a two-year fiscal impact of just over $200,000 for staff costs and task force expenses.   The money would cover compliance monitoring, data analysis and reporting.

LB 722 was given final approval, on a vote of 45-2.
