Strange person contacting Fairbury junior high students, principal says in voicemail

FAIRBURY – Late Tuesday afternoon, Fairbury Junior/Senior high principal Nicholas Kroon sent a voice message to the people of the Fairbury school district, notifying them of some strange phone activity.

“We just want to make you aware that we have had junior high students contacted by an unknown person who’s portraying himself to be a 14-year-old boy,” Kroon said. “We do not know the identity or true age of this individual, nor do we know his or her intent.”

Kroon said the school is working with local law enforcement to figure out the source of these calls.

Kroon says this incident serves as a good reminder for parents to talk with their children about the dangers of communicating with strangers online through social media.

Any student that’s been contacted is encouraged to notify either their principal or their local authorities.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
