State Genealogy Conference Comes to Columbus

COLUMBUS – Genealogists from across the state are making their way to Columbus this weekend for the annual state conference.

Conference Organizer Beth Sparrow says several speakers will be presenting throughout the weekend, with “The Legal Genealogist” Judy Russell, headlining the conference. Sparrow says the conference tends to draw an older audience, but says they are beginning to see younger Nebraskans getting involved.

“It’s really good, and my husband calls it my old lady meeting and I always get comments every year about how nice it is to see younger people involved in this, and there’s some younger than I am too, so it’s nice to see that it spans generations,” says Sparrow.

The conference is sponsored by the Nebraska State Genealogical Society, and will be at the Ramada throughout the weekend.

“Hopefully the attendees will get some tips on how to better find their records for their ancestors, and more clues on where to search, and that’s kind of our goal each year,” says Sparrow.

The Platte Valley Kinseekers are the Columbus based genealogical organization, and Sparrow says those interested in genealogy should check out nsgs.org.
