St. Ed Man Life-Flighted After Motorcycle/Deer Collision

MONROE – Authorities say a man is in critical condition, after a deer ran out in front of his motorcycle east of Monroe.

Platte County Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says authorities were called to the scene of a motorcycle accident at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wemhoff says 38-year-old, Peter Werner, of St. Edward, was traveling eastbound on Highway 22, when a deer ran out from the ditch and into the roadway. Werner collide with the deer, and was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle slid on the roadway before entering the ditch and rolling several times, says Wemhoff.

Werner was transported by Monroe Fire and Rescue to the Columbus Community Hospital, before later being flown by medical helicopter to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, says Wemhoff.

Wemhoff says Werner remains in critical condition.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office. The accident took place approximately 2 and 1/2 miles east of Monroe.
