COLUMBUS – 4 inches of rain, almost 2 inch hail, and 70 mph winds battered the area on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service reported that the western Platte, southern Boone, and northern Nance County area saw 4 to 6 inches of rain. Columbus saw some of the most of any other city, outside of that area, with 2.25 inches of rain, says the NWS.
Clarkson, Beemer, Oakland and Hoskins reported 1.75 inch hail, while West Point reported hail up to 2.5 inches in size.
Howells and Bellwood reported seeing the heaviest amount of wind, clocking in at 70 mph, while the entire area saw gusts above 60 mph.
Large tree limbs were knocked down throughout the entirety of the NCN-Columbus coverage area, with several local residents going into the early morning hours on Thursday without power.
Several counties across Nebraska were placed in Flash Flood Warnings Wednesday night, with Highway 275 reported to have been completely covered in water near West Point. Residential streets in Columbus and Schuyler also reported seeing water covering the streets and rising into yards.
