SALINA, Kan. (AP) — Weather officials are evaluating damage after multiple tornadoes touched down in rural areas of central Kansas.
The National Weather Service says twisters were spotted in six counties. No injuries were reported in the storms that started Thursday afternoon. But in Saline County, Kansas, at least one home was destroyed and two other properties were damaged. There also were reports of damaged sheds and power lines.
According to weather spotter reports given to the National Weather Service, one tornado crossed a road in front of the spotter, about six miles south of Palmer, in Clay County. A stovepipe tornado was reported about four miles south of Clay Center.
Crews began working Friday to determine the number and strength of the tornadoes.
Two-inch diameter hail was reported near Clifton, in Washington County, Kansas.
In Nebraska, Thursday storms brought a spotter report of baseball-sized hail south of Daykin, in Jefferson County….and half-dollar sized hail stones about six miles west of Fairbury.
