Several Beatrice Roads, Streets Shut by Flooding

BEATRICE – Beatrice officials have closed some roads, because of the flooding threat along the Big Blue River.

Tuesday, Memorial Drive was barricaded as the river began reaching bank full.

Beatrice Fire and Rescue Chief Brian Daake says the frost line, snowmelt and rainfall is resulting in more lowland flooding than usual….and some additional roads within the city are shut down.

Center Street, Helen and Bluff Streets in west Beatrice are also blocked off.

Daake says the latest forecast means it appears U.S. Highway 136, or West Court, will remain open.

The most recent forecast shows a crest on the Big Blue River in Beatrice of 20-point-nine feet…nearly three feet above flood stage.
