UPDATE – A Columbus man has been life-flighted after a semi collided with a tractor on HWY 30.
According to Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl, area law enforcement were dispatched to the collision, between County Road 4 and 5, around 3:40 p.m.
The semi, driven by a Columbus man, was heading westbound when it ran into the tractor which was hauling corn.
“When first responders arrived, they found the person who was on the tractor was actually upright, conscious, and moving,” Krcal explains. “The gentleman in the semi truck had to be extricated. Life-flight was contacted and has since been flown from the scene to a high level of care.”
Kracl did add that the semi driver was conscious when taken from the scene. The man who was driving tractor was transported from the scene in an ambulance, an is from rural Colfax County.
“This is actually our second semi truck and tractor collision that I’ve had since I’ve been county attorney,” Kracl adds. “I would just ask people to remember that it’s harvest time and that we have slow-moving vehicles on the roads.”
HWY 30 remained closed an hour after the collision as crews work to clean up the situation.
The Schuyler Police Department, Schuyler Fire and Rescue, Colfax County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol responded to the accident.
