Semi Catches Fire Tuesday Morning

COLUMBUS – Emergency crews were called out to east Columbus Tuesday morning after the cab of a semi caught fire.

Columbus Police Captain Todd Thalken says crew were called to the fire at 7:08 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot west of Sapp Bros. Thalken says the fire started in the engine compartment and spread to the cab before crews were able to extinguish it.

The semi was hauling a trailer full of grain, so crews were not worried about hazardous material, but crews had to move the semi and trailer full of hogs that was parked next to the semi that was on fire, in fear of the hogs getting injured.

The call was cleared at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday and the driver of the semi was not injured in the fire.
