BEATRICE – A sheriff’s and police search of three homes in Beatrice has turned up stolen property, and two suspects have been arrested.
Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies and Beatrice Police served search warrants yesterday on homes located at 1018 and 1020 North 15th and 1425 North 18th.
The investigation revealed that stolen property was likely being stored at the three homes. Law officers have arrested John Schriner and Jacob Bednar on suspicion of burglary, theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson says investigating and solving theft cases is difficult and at times, frustrating.

Schriner was located by law officers inside the home at 1020 North 15th. Stolen property was found in the driveway and garage at 1018 North 15th. That property had been reported stolen recently from Filley High School. The value of the items is estimated at $300 to $400 and law officers suspect Schriner of attempting to sell some of the items online. Two other persons located at 1020 North 15th were cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Law officers also found a 20-gauge shotgun, wrapped in a towel in a filing cabinet inside the garage. Schriner is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms.
Stolen property found at 1425 North 18th, sheriffs’ authorities say, is connected to several burglaries in the City of Beatrice and possibly elsewhere. Jacob Bednar was located at the address and arrested.
Authorities say more arrests are possible.
