Search continues for cop impersonator spotted near Reynolds

REYNOLDS, NE – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is still on the lookout for a person who was reported impersonating law enforcement on Highway 8 near Reynolds over the weekend.

The impersonator’s vehicle was described as a dark blue or black Charger-type sedan with red and yellow flashing lights on the windshield and grill area. The Sheriff’s Office received the report at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The male driver was described as having a badge, handcuffs, and possibly a hand gun. No vehicles matching this description have yet been located.

Law Enforcement in Nebraska do not have red or yellow lights on the front of patrol vehicles. Jefferson County Sheriff Nels Sorenson reminds motorists that if you are being stopped, real patrol vehicles are equipped with red and blue lights mounted on the roof and front grill areas.

Local law enforcement searched the area of Highway 8 near Reynolds soon after receiving the call, but did not find the vehicle described.

The Sheriff’s Office, as always, encourages residents to report any suspicious activity or behavior immediately.
