COLUMBUS – The Schuyler community has been taking full advantage of the newest addition to their town.
The Schuyler Community Field House opened to the public at the end of January.
The facility offers people to play football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, ping pong, air hockey and baseball cages will be added in the near future.
Not a whole lot is needed to be able to go and enjoy the facility.
“Any of the students like the middle school and high school students already have that, it’s their student identification card. Other community members can purchase an activity pass so it’s a thirty dollar fee and that’s good for the whole year it goes from August to August,” said field house director, Erin Trotter. “Senior citizens can get one for twenty dollars otherwise if someone doesn’t want to get a season pass they can get a day pass for five dollars.”
The facility is used by all Schuyler schools for practices, middle school students use it for psychical education classes, and after school programs are held there as well.
“It’s been busy we honestly didn’t know what to expect but everyone has just been surprised and overwhelmed by how popular this has been not only with students.. it’s been heavily used,” Trotter added.
The field house going to be to open in the fall but due to construction falling behind, the process had to be pushed back. However, Trotter said it’s been a good turnout.
“The kids seem to have a place to come and hang out, keeps them out of trouble, keeps them active,” Trotter said.
