Schaake Runs Away With Nebraska Amateur Title

BEATRICE – University of Iowa golfer Alex Schaake fired a seven-under par 65, running away with the Nebraska State Amateur Golf title at Beatrice Country Club, yesterday.

Schaake finished at 18-under 270 for the four-day tournament, seven shots in front of Mike Colgate, of Lincoln, at 277.

Schaake, whose brother Carson Schaake completed his eligibility for the Iowa Hawkeyes this past season, had rounds of 72, 66, 67 and 65, on the way to the second-lowest finishing total on record, in the state amateur tournament.  His 65 on Sunday was the lowest final round in the history of the championship.

Southeast Community College golfer Noah Hofman of McCook finished in third place at nine-under 279, two shots back of Colgate.  His final two rounds were 67 and 68.

John Sajevic, of Fremont finished fourth at eight-under, 280.  Kade Brown, of Omaha placed fifth, at 6-under-par, 282.

Eight players finished under par, for the four-day tournament.
