SCC Hebron Learning Center, Hits One-Year Anniversary
SCC Hebron Learning Center, Uses Former Thayer Central Elementary Building

BEATRICE – It has been one year since the ribbon was cut on the Southeast Community College Learning Center, at Hebron.  Tuesday, the SCC Board of Governors held their monthly meeting at the center, a repurposed former elementary school building on Jefferson Street in the Thayer County Community.

Hebron Learning Center Coordinator Crystal Fangmeier says the community has welcomed having the center.

The building was vacated by Thayer Central Public Schools when all grades were moved to a single campus.  Fangmeier says a lot of people probably thought the building would fall victim to a bulldozer.

But, SCC renovated the building and it’s now one of a half-dozen learning centers the community college is establishing.

Fangmeier says additional use of the center for a medical class is being aided by a grant.

Fangmeier says the past year, 243 students took classes through leisure learning at the Hebron Center, and her goal is to hit the 500 mark this year.  Southeast Community College has now established learning centers in York, Wahoo, Plattsmouth, Nebraska City and Hebron.  A final learning center will be constructed in Falls City.

Tuesday, the SCC Board approved AHRS Construction, Inc. of Bern, Kansas…as the Construction Manager for the 10,000 square foot Falls City Learning Center.  It will include general classroom space, health care and manufacturing training space along with general support areas.
