Rural Power District Preparing For SE Nebraska Storm

BEATRICE – Norris Public Power District has around 5,000 miles of power lines in the southeast Nebraska area it serves.  An approaching winter storm that could include heavy icing is a concern through this weekend.

Norris Public Power District General Manager Bruce Vitosh says the district is ready with workers, trucks fueled and stocked with supplies for what could become an expensive storm.

Norris Public Power District has customers in Gage, Lancaster, Saline, Jefferson and Thayer Counties.

Forecasters say some areas could see significant icing this weekend, which could trigger power outages as the ice weighs on power lines and poles.

Vitosh says Norris Public Power District has mutual aid agreements with other public power districts which provide additional personnel and resources for all districts involved, if the storm becomes too large for a single district to handle.
