FAIRBURY – Residents of Jefferson, Saline and Gage Counties are again being reminded to register for the Blue Rivers Basin Community Alert System.
The system allows people living in those counties to receive notifications of potential safety issues affecting their area such as severe weather, hazardous materials, floods and wildfires as well as events like road closures, snow emergencies and power outages.
Jefferson and Saline County Emergency Management Director John McKee says that while landline phones are already in the system, cell phones need to be registered.

Phones can be registered through a simple form that can be accessed through the county websites.

The program allows the counties to send alerts targeted at a specific location, so residents will only receive those notices that directly affect them.
The form can be accessed here.
