Purses and Cash Stolen, Thieves Denied Access to Cards

COLUMBUS – Columbus Police say two purses were reported stolen on Monday, but say the thieves were denied access when they tried using the credit cards from one of the purses.

Columbus Police Captain Todd Thalken says the first purse was reported while the owner was a store on 23rd Street in east Columbus. The purse was a Michael Kors brand purse that had $230 in it and the theft was reported at 5:35 p.m., says Thaken.

The second purse was reported stolen from a vehicle in a parking lot off east 24th Street in Columbus. The owner was at work at the location when the purse was stolen from their vehicle. Thalken says the person or persons who stole the purse have attempted to use the credit cards in the purse at multiple locations, but thanks to fraud protection, the cards were declined at all the locations.  The theft was reported at 7:22 p.m.

CPD is investigating the incidents, and if anyone has information about either theft, CPD encourage you to contact them at 402-564-3201.
