BEATRICE – A Beatrice man whose involvement in several charitable activities has benefitted several local organizations, has died. Leigh Coffin passed away unexpectedly at Beatrice Community Hospital, according to Griffiths Hovendick Chapels. Coffin was 66.
The Beatrice High School and Michigan State University graduate retired from banking in 2013…with he and his wife Marilyn moving back to Beatrice from Florida.
Coffin was involved in efforts to raise money for a new Beatrice Humane Society animal shelter and was President of the Coffin Family Foundation. The organization helps provide support for the Homestead National Monument of America’s Tallgrass Fiddle Festival and the annual Empty Bowls Soup Luncheon to benefit the Beatrice Backpack Program. Community Players of Beatrice, Main Street Beatrice and Junior Achievement have also benefitted from the work of the foundation.
As a Gage County Historical Society Board member, Coffin helped facilitate the museum’s brick project and the Company C-134th Infantry Exhibit that was dedicated a week ago.
Leigh Coffin’s funeral service will be Monday, 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the Beatrice Humane Society and Gage County Historical Society.
