Prescription Drug Take Back Scheduled for October 22

FAIRBURY – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration will again be giving area residents a chance to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs.

Sheriff Nels Sorensen says a booth will be set up at the Jefferson County Law Enforcement Center at 606 3rd Street in Fairbury on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The service is free, anonymous and there will be no questions asked and any pills or patches will be taken. The DEA cannot take liquids, needles or sharps.

Last April, Americans turned in more than 893,000 pounds of prescription drugs at nearly 5,400 sites across the country. The initiative is in its sixth year and aims to reduce prescription drug abuse as well as accidental poisonings or overdoses.
