Ponca Tribe Comes into Beatrice One Day Shy of Making History

BEATRICE – The Ponca Remembrance Walk will come to an end in Barneston on Wednesday, as the tribe signs a deed to take control of the Chief Standing Bear Trail from the Nebraska Trails Foundation and the Homestead Conservation and Trails Association.

On Tuesday, they made the walk into Beatrice from DeWitt and the Homestead National Monument of America.

The deed ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
